Juhee Lee-Hartford, Project Architect for HHPA

This project is a remarkable example of how the reclamation of an under-utilized facility can revitalize a neighborhood. In a century-old space that was once created as a farmer’s market under the 59th Street Bridge overpass, modern shops and a restaurant were designed to accommodate contemporary needs. A thorough history of the project can be obtained from the article published in Architectural Record in May, 2000.

This project was in the HHPA office for about 20 years when Juhee joined the firm in 1996. The project was resuscitated in 1997, and Juhee was assigned to develop the construction documents for the core and shell phase, under the supervision of a project architect. She then took on the full responsibilities of construction administration, and the creation of construction documents for the tenant fit-out for the Conran Shop and Guastavino’s restaurant with Conran’s design team, and she administered the construction of the final phase. Juhee was responsible for coordinating various parties such as the Department of Transportation, the Economic Development Corporation, the Landmarks Commission, and various teams of engineers, contractors, and tenant architects through the project’s completion.
