NEWBURGH, NY | COMPLETED: | PHOTOS: RIVER ARCHITECTS
Initially approached by the non-profit organization to propose conceptual designs for municipal review, River Architects envisioned the Folk Music Hall of Memories as a landmark destination with a profound significance in the revitalization of downtown Newburgh.
Seeking to preserve through contrast, new elements are discretely inserted between the site's existing building remnants. The textures of the remaining facade with its distressed plaster, brick, rafter pockets, and charred fireplaces are complimented by new layers of simple and honest materials. This transparency creates a unique opportunity for visitors to experience the rich history of the site while projecting confidence throughout the community in the present and future.
